초청 특별전 《동시대:한국》에서는 홍진훤 작가의 <melting icecream>을 소개합니다. <melting icecream>은 민주화운동 당시 촬영된 필름을 복원하는 과정을 따라가며 한국의 민주화운동과 이후 비정규직 운동의 충돌을 다루고 있습니다.
In the special exhibition 《Contemporary:Korea》 15th BIVAF invites <melting icecream> by Jinhwon Hong. <melting icecream> follows the process of restoring films shot during the democratic movement and focuses on the conflict in Korea between the democratic
movement and the struggle of non-regular workers afterward.

인간이 의도치 않게 만들어버린 빗나간 풍경들을 응시하고 카메라로 수집하는 일을 주로 한다. 여섯번의 개인전을 열었고, 다수의 단체전에 참여했다. 동료들과 공간을 함께 운영하며 이런 저런 전시와 이런 저런 프로그램을 기획했다. 때로는 프로그래밍을 하며 웹사이트를 개발하고 가끔은 글을 쓰고 또 가끔은 요리를 한다. 아. 이젠 영화도 만든다.
My work concentrates on gazing and collecting the sceneries that are incidentally generated by human beings. I have participated in six solo exhibitions and several group exhibitions. Also, I have run the alternative space that is involved in many different exhibitions and programmes. Sometimes, I develop websites and programmes. Sometimes, I write something and cook. Sometimes, I make a movie.

수해를 입은 민주화운동 당시의 필름을 복원하는 과정에서 종료될 수 없는 '민주화'의 종료를 선언하고 과거화, 역사화 하려는 욕망을 발견한다. 그것은 결국 영웅화, 신화화의 결과를 낳았다. 민주화 운동의 영웅이었던 이들이 대통령이 되었다. 그리고 IMF, 정리해고, 비정규직으로 이어지는 신주유주의의 비극은 더욱 가속했다. 물론 그때도 그 지옥을 막기위해 싸웠던 사람들이 있었다. 싸우지 않을 도리가 없던 사람들. 그리고 그 사람들을 기록했던 사람들. 필름을 복원할 수록, 그 시대의 영웅들을 복원할 수록, 그 영웅들이 만든 세계와 싸웠던 사람들은 사라져갔다. 어떤 세계를 복원할 수록 삭제되는 어떤 세계가 있었다.
Restoring the democratic movement-relatedfilm that suffered from the flood, the desire for declaring the end of "democratization" has been founded; though, democratization cannot be achieved. This results in a heroization and mythization of the democratization. The heroes of democratic movements became the presidents of this country. Furthermore, the tragedy of neoliberalism, which is often represented as the IMF foreign exchange crisis, layoffs, and nonregular workers has been accelerated. Of course, there were some people who fought against the tragedy. They were the people who didn't have any choices but fight and the people who recorded them. Restoring the film, and restoring the heroes, the world they had made and the people they were against has disappeared. That was the world that disappeared when tried to be restored.
